CD Reviews

The return of Sergio
X. F. Johnson | 11/05/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In beginning this review I have to tell you the reader of this post that I LOVE this album. The explosive pounding opening of "Voodoo" that completly grabs and pulls you in. Listening to "Voodoo" I always feel like I've entered a new world of joyous rhythms. "Carnaval" is a continuation of that Brazilian party (just close your eyes and picture it). "Never Gonna Let You Go" was a nice first single, but for me dosen't

fit with the rest of the album. I love Leza Miller's vocals on "Never Gonna Let You Go", "Love Is Waiting" (my favorite track) and "Life In The Movies" (she also sings lead on the second verse of "Voodoo"). Joe Pizzulo

(who does the co-lead vocals on "Nevwe Gonna Let You Go" with Leza Miller)

dosen't jump off of the page as a vocalist for me. he is a very average (and I will say "Borring") singer. There is nothing exciting about his vocals (lucky enough he only has one co-lead spot on the album). In 1983-1984 the Sembello family were on top of the world writing, sining and playing on just about everything at the time following Michael Sembello's hugely successful "Maniac" from the "Flashdance" soundtrack. Michael sings lead on "My Summer Love" and Danny Sembello handles lead on "Rainbow's End". Oddly enough great vocalists Michael and Danny Sembello wrote one of the albums two jazz-laden instrumental tracks "Dream Hunter" a laid-back breezy kind of groove. the other instrumental is the Brazilian-jazz flavored "Si Senor" a nice close to a perfectly sequenced album. Perfect from start to the all-to-soon end."
Nice find
