CD Reviews

A music lover's dream
Christopher Elliott | Littleton, NH United States | 05/29/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"My love of this band began when i downloaded "Take your mama out" by mistake. I had never heard anything about them or of them for that matter but that song gave me faith that music nowadays can be still vibrant. A honky-tonkish, early to mid-seventies sounding song, with vocals that should make Sir Elton blush about coming out to your mom, should not in theory, work. But boy does it ever. "Mama" is incredible. The rest of the album(showing my age) is just as fantastic. Witty lyrics and a musical style difficult to pinpoint, this collection is a breath of fresh air. These guys(and girl) may come out of the NYC fashon scene but back it up with the musical chops. Every song on their debut has a unique feel. The 2 songs that really suprised me are "Mary" and "It can't come quickly enough". If you've only heard their more upbeat stuff, these 2 songs will suprise. Other songs of note are "Laura", "Music is the victim" and the stunning closer "Return to oz" which will make you wonder if you're still listening to the same CD. Heck, this whole album is brilliant. I bought it as an import but i heard it will be officially released in the US This summer. If so, buy it. If you can't wait, it is so worth looking for it as an import. Enjoy!!"
