"I studied lieder seriously for several years. Naturally, I listened to all the recordings I could find, and heard a great deal of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Then I bought this recording...and I no longer am satisfied by any other interpeter of Schubert's songs.

Gerhard Souzay is absoultely peerless in this recording. His voice is rich, warm, full of spirit, and devoid of the affect that plagues most other lieder singers.

I don't understand why Souzay's recordings aren't more readily available."

"I bought as a young student in Amsterdam die Winterreise interpretated by Gerard Souzay and I was totally overwhelmed by his voice. Later on I heard several other interpretations, but none of them could reach his level. When I moved to another house I lost the vinyl, but buying this cd brought all the beauty back. Wonderful! "I listened to Souzay's Die Schone Mullerin over and over from a borrowed cassette tape-- 15 years ago. I have never heard better. And I can't get the memory of it out of my head. When oh when will it be reissued?"
