"Some people dislike the idea of 'best of' compilations, arguing that if you want to hear a band at its best you should simply buy their best albums, not some cherry-picked selection of songs. One such sceptic is Sammy Hagar. Indeed, one of the rumoured reasons for his fallout with Van Halen was the release of their 'Greatest Hits Vol.1' album. Given his dismissive comments on the subject, it's ironic that his solo catalogue has been subject to more than a few such compilations, and here comes yet anotherThe problem for the casual or the curious when it comes to Hagar's output is the lack of a definitive album. Ask five hardcore fans which is their favourite and you're likely to get five different answers. Although he penned many classic songs, most of his albums were inconsistent affairs, with a fair amount of filler material. Sammy may see red, but you're really best sticking to a compilation. And there's no need to look any further than this oneBecause of his switch from Capitol to Geffen midway through his solo career, Sammy Hagar compilations only tend to cover either his earlier or later albums. This collection not only spans both periods, it also includes a few cuts from his time with Montrose. The compilers have included tracks from every one of his albums from the poor-selling debut 'Nine on a Ten Scale' right up to the hit 'VOA' (Voice of America), his last before joining Van Halen. Of course, one CD can't hope to include all his best material, and the broad scope of this collection is bound to lead to some omissions, but overall nothing too obvious has been left out. It's worth noting too that this is the only collection that includes his biggest hit "Your Love is Driving Me Crazy"If you're only going to buy one Hagar CD, this would have to be it"

"To have an anthology cd put out for someone who's been around as long as Sammy Hagar as a single cd is pointless. If it's anything less than a two or three cd package, than there's just too many grade A songs not included. And in this case, there is a LOT of his best work omitted. Infact, most of the stuff on his best of "Unboxed" cd isn't on this cd at all!!! I wonder if Sammy even had a hand in the idea of the anthology cd. If you want a great taste of Sammy's better songs...stick to his "best of" cds.Notice "cds" is in the plural form??? 'Nuff said."
