"What a wonderful glimpse into the career of la Rysanek in one of her greatest roles. In this LIVE recording the sound quality is excellent. While Rysanek is perhaps not at the very best I've heard her, she makes a wonderful Salome, with a rich glorious voice, up to the challenge. This being a live performance, one can hear her getting a bit out of breath towards the climaxes of the final scene, but she still manages a fantastic portrayal. While not replacing Studer or Nilsson, I could not resist this price, and i was not disappointed. Well worth it for a first or second Salome."

"This is a great recording! An example of how live opera recordings can outshine the studio recordings. Rysanek is astounding. She kept making my jaw drop. The indescribable sound she makes as she sees Jokanaan's head for the first time is worth the price of the cd. Chilling. The sound quality is ok, not great, but don't let it keep you from missing this staggering recording."
