The musicians include Lewis Nash and Carol Buck from the Ron Carter Nonet- indeed, the music here is similar to that played by the nonet. Friends also includes Hubert Laws on flute, adding a unique sound to the proceedings. The pieces have a strong classical influence- Gymnopides, for example, at first sounds just like it might if played by a string orchestra, but then begins to show jazz influences. Overall, an intriguing collection and a must-have for any Ron Carter Nonet fan."
