Synopsis

Album Description
The original ASQ (now know as the Grainger Quartet) premieres three charming new works from the Perth-based composer / pianist. A one-time student of Stockhausen, two decades ago Smalley began reintegrating into his music the romantic tonalities of Chopin and Brahms, often basing his pieces on deconstructed fragments of their music. The Piano Quintet and the lovely String Quartet No. 2 both draw upon Chopin, although the particularly delightful Trio for Horn, Violin and Piano is based entirely on original material. Completely original, and highly accessible. Recording and packaging are up to the usual Melba standards.
