Synopsis

Product Description
One of the rave reviews this CD received was by critic Susan Kagan (Fanfare Magazine) who expressed in a nutshell the exceptional quality of this interpretation with the words: ...Demidenko seems to identify perfectly with the many aspects of Schumanns personality expressed in these pieces impetuosity, bubbling good humor, intimacy, melancholy, tendernessand each emotion is captured to perfection. The sheer technical command evinced in some difficult passages, such as the octaves in the Intermezzo section in the third piece of the Humoreske, or the dazzling leggiero of the second of the Novelletten, is absolutely thrilling...;...Of the several versions of these works available on CD, I find none that surpasses Demidenko in Schumannesque expression and technique...

Discover Schumann early piano music with Nikolai Demidenko

(5 out of 5 stars)

"As most of the books say the early piano pieces of Schumann are considered to be the best part of his entire output. This CD presents the two less known cycles of miniatures written in 1838 (Novelletten) and 1839 (Humoresque). Novelletten were written almost at the same time with Kreisleriana and their character has a lot in common with that genious cycle. Humoresque is one more wonderful example of Florestan and Eusebius symbiosis. Both of the pieces are extremely emotional and bear a great deal of beautiful and heartfelt musical thoughts. The interpretation by Nikolai Demidenko is flawless and brilliant, one of the best I've heard. For those who loved this CD I highly recommend Hyperion recording of Schumann Sonatas 1,3 also by Demidenko. Both CD-s are an excellent examples of Shumann small and large-scale forms in piano music performed by a high-class master."
Very Good!

"Put simply, Demidenko plays these interpretatively very difficult pieces very well, especially Humoreske.P.S.: They should be heard at one time without skipping, in order to get absorbed in the whole Schumann's world. Only by doing so, one can appreciate these underrated pieces' true value, I believe."
