CD Reviews

At long last ...and in fine form
Southern Slim | Memphis, USA | 03/01/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It's been ten years plus since our hero has released an album. If you were slightly dissapointed with his last offering, you won't be dissapointed with this one. Robert's golden voice has mellowed a bit, his taste in picking tunes to cover is uncanny and the backing band is much closer to what we want to hear backing Gordon. Upright bass, vintage rockabilly style guitar, some tasty pedal steel from Fats Kaplin and a great selection of tunes. Lee Hazlewood's "These Boots Are Made For Walking", Quentin Claunch's "Mama's Little Baby", Doc Pomus' "Turn Me Loose" and dig that opening track - the little known Larry Finnegan hit from 1962 "Dear One" is tailor made for Gordon, whose version here eclipses the original. There's shades of Conway Twitty in the country tinged version of Jack Ripley's "Your Angel Steps Out Of Heaven" and the Hollie's "Long Cool Woman" is tailored made for the velvet voice of Gordon. Taste and style is what this album is all about and Gordon delivers in spades. Bravo professor, my compliments to the chef."

"Gordon produces a fantastic album with some songs with a country flair. His voice and choice of songs and musicians only get better with time. Do not make a mistake and not purchase it now."

"I have heard a lot of Robert Gordon. This album simply amazed me. Every track was a must listen to. I never wanted to skip forward to the next track. Perfect traveling music. I can listen again and again, and find something new everytime. Extremely worth the money!"
