Synopsis

Album Description
UK band Ritual released the 'Widow' album in 1983, which has since become one of the most sought-after and hard-to-find albums of the entire NWOBHM era. Many people mistook the band's name as 'Widow', as the cover gave no indication of the band name. Their sound is in the vein of fellow British bands Witchfynde, Pagan Altar and Legend. Features new cover art, plus the original cover art, and previously unreleased tracks.

CD Reviews

Hard-Charging English Metal
Kurt Harding | Boerne TX | 10/29/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"First, a word of warning: this band is no relation to the Swedish band of the same name. That being said, it is an album which should please metal-heads immensely. I ordered it because I thought it was an early version of that Swedish band, but on discovering it was not, found that I like it anyway.

Widow is packed with hard-charging English metal. The music is rousing but if you are looking for profound lyrics, they are not to be found here. My favorites are the opening cut, Journey, Burning, and the instrumental Forever.

According to the useful booklet that accompanies this release, Ritual has been recording since the mid-70s though I never heard of them. The discography is impressive for a band so obscure. The booklet also contains lyrics, pertinent album info, pictures and an interview with guitarist/vocalist Gypsy Re Bethe. If you like high-energy metal and haven't heard Ritual, then maybe you should give Widow a shot. The price is right!"
