30 Vintage Country Favorites Now on CD
"Tee" | LA | 06/28/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Back in the 1960's RCA Victor Records dominated country music with it's only real threat coming from Decca Records. This 3 CD set goes to the vaults and pulls out 30 vintage RCA tracks from most of it's biggest stars of the era. Look at that incredible hit lineup. And the topper is some of these tracks were not even the star's biggest hits during the 1960's. There are also a few RCA artists from the period included like Willie Nelson and Ed Bruce who had modest success during the period and later blossomed into major stars. Here's the legendary RCA roundup from Jim Reeves to Porter Wagoner along with Connie Smith, Skeeter Davis, Waylon Jennings, The Browns, Norma Jean, Eddy Arnold, Bobby Bare, Charley Pride, Liz Anderson, etc. etc. There are also some country stars from the period like Carl Belew and John D. Loudermilk that are tough to find on CD. My only gripe is where on earth are Dottie West and Dolly Parton? Dolly didn't sign to the label until 1968 so she did have a limited 60s catalog (although was a success right off the bat) but Dottie West's RCA work goes back to 1964 and includes multiple Grammy nominated performances. I guess 30 tracks was just not enought to display the full range of RCA's country roster, still this is an awesome collection and well worth the money."
