Synopsis

Amazon.com
This soundtrack to a television show on the Cartoon Network is the latest in a series of attempts to "break" this contagiously fun pop duo on American shores. In their native Japan, Puffi Amiyumi (who were brought together by a manager and record label in 1995) play stadiums, start fashion trends without trying, host a variety show, and have their own action figures. They?ve had a surprisingly long career, but have never made much of a pop culture mark in the US aside from the insanely catchy theme song to the cartoon Teen Titans (which appears here as a bonus track). This greatest-hits collection travels from beach blanket retro-pop numbers to head-banging anthems. Many of these songs are sung in Japanese, but they speak that universal language perfected in 1965 by John, Paul, George and Ringo: very clever, super melodic, three minute pop songs that stick in your head all week long. --Mike McGonigal

THE PUFFANATORS ARE GREAT POP FOR ALL AGES!
Dadio | Florida | 04/04/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Puffanators RULE THE UNIVERSE!!! These BuBblY Chickies are Awesome! Together with Andy Sturmer (majority contributing composer - from the band Jellyfish), they've truly brought back all the great Pop through the times! And Sturmer is at his best when working with them. If you like the BeeBops of the 50s, the Groovyness of the 60s, the Beatles & Monkeys, the Jackson 5 & Osmonds, 80s Power solos, soaring harmony, and just Great Pop Song Anthems to which there's just NO WAY you can possibly -not- sing and dance, then you'll Absolutely LOVE these Groovy Girlies! And I'm not talking about cover songs, tributes, or those crazy Asian pop tunes that are just rip-offs of American Pop hits. These songs are Original and fresh for so many reasons (esp. for those outside Japan).

This compilation CD is Spectacular and a great intro to these Rockin' Chickies! And it's FOR ALL AGES!!! That's a HUGE Marketing Mistake in my opinion. All ages would love this music. Andy Sturmer and the Japanese love of American/Western Pop music from great times past coupled with 2 very mature (30s) yet youthful energetic Chickies with perfect voices for this kind of relentlessly Fun Pop, ensure that. Sturmer's compositions are for all ages and esp. for those old enough to have memories that would surely be stirred by these past Pop music/culture-inspired tunes. And how many of us have witnessed the most unlikely family members singing along or dancing to the "Teen Titans Theme" song when the kids have the Cartoon Network on; recalling theme songs of the old Batman TV series and others. Even the most unlikely family members dig it (Dick Dale riffs, 80s Hard Rock solo, etc.). And the girls are mature enough and have the perfect energy and voices to put Mega-Smiles on everyone's faces. Most if not all of the Puffanator/Sturmer songs, in my opinion, are modern Pop masterpieces! And the non-Sturmer songs are fresh, unique, culturally fascinating, and of course FUN too! More people need to hear these great songs. They make you smile, laugh, and dance - whether you want to or not!

My favorite is "Sunrise". Recorded here entirely in Japanese (which is Very Groovy), it transcends language. A PuffAnator/Sturmer Masterpiece!"
