Synopsis

Amazon.com
The soundtrack to Disney's 2004 Cinderella sequel The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement offers a wide variety of young Disney stars (Raven--who has a small part in the movie--Lindsay Lohan, Jesse McCartney, Christy Carlson Romano), hot vocalists (American Idol's Kelly Clarkson, Norah Jones), and head-banging rockers (Avril Lavigne, Pink). The best tracks are Clarkson's "Breakaway," Raven's "This Is My Time," Renee Olstead's Norah-esque "A Love That Will Last," and "Your Crowning Glory," a duet between Raven and Julie Andrews. It's not a flashy showcase for Andrews, who begins it in a half-sung, half-spoken style before Raven joins her to a funky beat. But just hearing the beloved film and stage star sing at all after the problems she's experienced following botched vocal-cord surgery in the late '90s... well, it might just bring a tear to your eye. --David Horiuchi

Fun soundtrack - with a few parts worth skipping...

"Let's break it down, track by track...

1. Breakaway - (Kelly Clarkson) - Has AVRIL LAVIGNE written all over it (that's because Avril co-penned it). It's a fun, breezy, radio-ready number, but really not all that spectacular.

2. I Decide - (Lindsay Lohan) - The girl can defintely carry a tune. Much like Clarkson's track - fun, crunchy, airy and radio-ready.

3. This Is My Time - (Raven) - A mixture of r&b and pop-rock, Raven proves that she is a very capable singer (not highly unique, but she can definitely sing). Fun!

4. I Always Get What I Want - (Avril Lavigne) Originally released only on international versions of her latest album, this track is typical Avril ~ angry, crunchy, poppy and so on...

5. Trouble - (P!nk) - An overlooked rock gem from late 2003. One of the best tracks on the album!

6. Because You Live - (Jesse McCartney) - Yawn... Yes, he can sing, but this song is just your everyday, run-of-the-mill pop tune that will make young girls squeal with delight (and that's about all)...

7. Love Me Tender - (Adam Levy/Norah Jones) - Another gorgeous song from the sublime Norah Jones...

8. Fun In The Sun - (Steve Harwell) - The only real rock song on the album, the title of this track says 'pop tune' but it's really hard-edged pop-rock. A nice change!

9. Let's Bounce - (Christy Carlson Romano) - Another fun, bouncy, fluffy pop tune that's easy on the ears.

10. Dance, Dance, Dance - (Wilson Phillips) - Gorgeous harmonies and a breezy summer classic - need I say more...

11. Fools - (Rachel Stevens) - Red hot, former S Club singer makes her US solo debut (technically) with the best track on this cd! Fun, sassy, and radio-ready, it's really a work of pop genius! If you haven't heard Rachel's European hits 'Sweet Dreams My LA Ex' and the out-of-this-world gem 'Some Girls' you haven't lived yet!

12. A Love That Will Last - (Renee Olstead) - 14 years old and a what a voice!! Gorgeous and soulful - a 'Royal' treat.

13. Your Crowning Glory - (Julie Andrews/Raven/Anne Hathaway) - Pretty harmonies (Julie can't sing like she use to - but it's still nice to hear her voice).

14. Miracles Happen - (Jonny Blu) - Acoustic and sung partly in Chinese (I think ???), I say this track is pretty decent (Jonny has a fairly good voice).

Overall, I say this cd is worth buying.
