"not that anyone is looking here, but that poor fellow in Vancouver is taking time away from his precious life to knock an album he hated THIRTEEN years ago? What can we possibly make of that? "million seller" is so much fun it hurts. It is everything you could wish for in a bubblegum top 40 record -- sweet, disposable bliss from pros who are smart enough to do whatever they want, and what they want is pretty much the best of The Archies. I've LOVED this brilliantly textured and produced disc since 1993, so I'm here for different reasons, to sing out praise and invite whatever kids are out there rummaging around for AM radio, summer, windows-down in the car bliss to pay the buck forty four or whatever it is and see if it turns your world on or not. I've seen Todd Rungdren, the Partridge Family and others mentioned when describing their sound, but you can't overlook the wonderful buzz of the guitar -- the parents of Apples in Stereo at their melodious, and un-frathouse rockish best. Heaven help for me saying it, but this is one of the best records I've ever heard and archeologists in a time long after we are gone will vindicate it at such. So there.

Now where was I? Oh, yes . . . Always overlooked, though, is the Pooh Sticks, despite the put-on that they could be, actually understood how to write really sharp lyrics. I love the line ("I know he hurt you/there wasn't a lot I could do about it.") and then there is the piano only heartache of "The Girl Just Wants To Be Free." God bless all you Pooh Sticks wherever you are these 13 years later. -- Love on ya.

You can't have her there every minute of the day

And you can't hold her close when the light goes away

You can't touch her hair

Though you know that's the way it should be

You can't have her

When the girl wants to be free

It hurts so badly you just wanna sleep

You love her so completely

She's in your movement and when you breathe

You read the only letter you didn't rip up together

But the girl wants to be free

You think you're sleeping under the same star

But as far as she's concerned it's only her star

You can't hold her when she wants to be free

You can only love her

When the girl wants to be free
