Schubert In His Element

"The picture we have of Schubert is the composer sitting around the piano encircled by his personal friends and admirers. We should also think of the music in this compliation. This truely is Schubert. These performers, through the entire compliation of piano music for four hands, have brought these too often neglected masterpieces to the forefront. This music has helped immortalize the composer. I have started with volume 1 and eagerly await the others. My personal favorites in this set are the six polonaises and the set of three heroic marches. Thanks Tal and Groethusyen for making us better by hearing this music!!!!"

"For me, the compulsion to review something is often a function of how great it is vs. how known its greatness is. This is a truly amazing disc set. Not even sure what made me buy this years ago, but I have gone through periods of being obsessed with it, and yet, each time I return, I am still amazed. This music is at turns hypnotic, achingly lyrical, and monstrously athletic. I love all the pieces listed by the other reviewer here, but want to stress that this dual disc is packed with great stuff; there are no clunkers. The sound and the playing are amazing. Volume II was a bit of a letdown, but still had a lot of good stuff on it."
