"These works are so commonly played that it suffices to say, if you are looking for an interpretation that sings to your mind and soul simultaneously, with the highest intensity, then look no further, for Lipatti is the (sole?) interpreter who does just that. In this case, Karajan's orchestration is canonical and elegant, it meshes very well with the piano solo.



It goes without saying, most any Lipatti interpretation will be within similar parameters. However, this series of EMI releases stands out technically as well--Lipatti's career ended brusquely in the early 1950's, a time when recordings barely started their HiFi journey."

A life cut too short!

"What a tragedy that Lipatti lived only 33 years. This interpretation, like all the other Lipatti recordings I have heard, is magnificent. I cry each time I listen to the allegro vivace... There is certainly no finer, more nuanced interpretation of Schumann's only piano concerto, and it is unlikely that anything comprable will arise in the near future."
