CD Reviews

Blues and Hard Deep Dark Rock

"This CD is one of my 10 desert island must haves. Sean Dean plays bass with Dallas Good in the sadies, Eric Chenaux played a few years with king cobb steelie (and now makes art music) but I haven't found out what Gavin Brown (drummer) has been up to. Sadly I never got to see them back in the early 90's. This album was recorded by steve albini (as the Chicago Recording Company in 92) and he ripped off the sound when shellac recorded "at action park." So if you like that album this one trumps it with soul."

"During my college years a friend of mine sent me a tape he had made of several punk bands he had seen/heard through various circles. 3 songs from this album were on it. I had to buy this disc to get the rest. After searchig for some time (as I believe this was temporarily out of print) I was happy to see it available again (my friend was also glad that I returned his copy). Phleg Camp has a crunching sound that combines tons of undergound influences from Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, and El Smasho to mainstreamers like Johnny Cash and Bad Brains. The entire album maintains a variety of sounds and tempos that make you wish you could have made it to one of their live shows an experience one of the most creative and intense sounds to come out of the 90's. Buy this before it disappears or to prevent it from disappearing--classic CD!"
