Soulful and Mellow

"When the name Phillip Martin is mentioned in the musical world, some may think of the renowned Irish composer and pianist with the same name. But now Phillip Martin known as "Doc Martin" the saxophonist is making the name for himself at least when it comes to Jazz and Soul. In 2004 when he released the CD "fourpoint 0" he definitely caught the attention of JazzeOne Production as someone special. Legendary Jazz artists agree that he brings something special to the table. Keyboardist Jeff Lorber who appeared on "fourpoint 0"says "Doc Martin plays with the energy of a live club recording; something sadly missing from most smooth jazz artists these days". Guitarist George Benson proclaims Doc Martin is "someone to watch for!" I agree with the both of them.

Phillip "Doc" Martin's 2007 project, "Pride and Joy" takes this rising 28 year old Alto saxophone guru to a new level of recognition in the Jazz world. According to Three Keys Music, which is the recording label for the new release, his style has "Saxappeal" (a play on the release "Saxappeal" Special Edition 2003 CD, which includes some songs found on "fourpoint 0"). After listening to this project the JazzeOne agrees and adds that "his style is soulful and mellow. " He pours his heart and soul into `Rock the Boat' and the title cut `Pride and Joy'. He gets into a nice smooth mellow groove with `American Garden' and `Shades of Gray'. In fact from the opening cut 'Always There' to the final cut `More', his warmth and energy keeps your attention somewhat to the fashion of a live performance.

You will enjoy the smooth soulful mellow cuts on this CD and at the same time get to hear one of the upcoming Jazz saxophonists of now and the future! ~ the JazzeOne

"You know it is rare when you blindly buy a cd and find a gem. I recently saw this man at a retail booth at a jazz festival in California. I never got a chance to see him perform but bought his CD anyways. What a pleaseant suprise. This is now my favorite CD this summer. Martin's playing is incredible. I enjoy the entire CD, his smooth, sexual playing is great for any gathering. You won't be disappointed in purchasing this CD. IT IS WELL WORTH THE PRICE!
