Although criticized by some when released back in 1990, "El Rey" was a very strong album on most counts. "El Conde" shows his strengths on the gorgeous "Reliquias", the groovy "Gandules" and interesting cover versions of the Jose Alfredo Jimenez ranchera classics "Yo Quiero Ser" and "El Rey". Not as mind-blowing or prolific as his 1970s releases but still very good. Produced by Johnny Pacheco." |
