CD Reviews

Old Pentagle fan gets rid of scratches
Ian Butterworth | London United Kingdom | 07/03/2000

"When I recently had an urge to listen to Pentangle, I discovered that two (yes two) of my old Pentangle albums had gone missing (and maybe had been for years). This selection appears to be pretty close to what I would have chosen myself (usually there's one favourite mssing). So if you're familar with the music it's nice to supplement those ancient albums with a CD and if you're not, this is pretty much all you need."
Wonderful songs expressed by a beautiful voice.

"If, like me, you've chanced to hear any of Pentangle's songs you will surely be wanting to hear more.

I heard 'Light Flight' on a TV theme compilation and it grew on me so much that I had to seek out more of their music.

I chose this double CD simply because it had the most songs for the price. It was a good choice. The anthology takes a rich selection of tracks from all of the albums with the original line-up and consists of traditional and original songs.

In Jacqui McShee's voice I find the purity that is missing from Sandi Denny's. She sings the songs simply and without over-acting or over-colouring; instead she relies on the beauty of her voice and the power of the words themselves.

I have discovered more superb Pentangle recordings since buying this set but it is still the best-value representation of their work I know."
