CD Reviews

A chance to hear Peggy Seeger and Irene Scott at their best.
Mr. B. E. Power | Brighton, UK | 08/27/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

""New Spring Morning" and "Once Again" have hauntingly beautiful melodies and encapsulate the world of two lovers (Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger) whose working musical partnership extended over 30 years. This album gives the best opportunity to date to listen to Peggy Seeger in partnership with the British folksinger Irene Scott. Their two voices blend beautifully together. Irene's fantastic voice features prominently on "Primrose Hill", "Garden of Flowers" and "My Joy of You". There is a great deal of humour "Give 'Em an Inch-" (a sideswipe at men through the eyes of a midwife) and a jazz / piano feel to this album "You don't know how lucky you are", which give breadth to Peggy Seeger's song-writing and illustrate her versatility as a musician. For those who believe that Peggy Seeger is 'stuck in the folk music groove' or is 'the remaining half of a dead duo', this album will completely change your mind about her viability. I hope to hear more of Peggy and Irene on future albums, but meanwhile.... I do know how lucky I am to be able to play Almost Commercially Viable."
