Great out of print title

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Exotic Embers, Forgotten Moons serves as a good introduction to some of the latin rhythms, bossa nova beats and exotica that was so popular in the late 1960's. This is entry #5 in Laserlight's Ultimate Bachelor's Pad collection - most of the titles which are now out of print, but widely available used. Like the other Laserlight titles in this series (Bachelor in Paradise, Bachelor's Little Black Book, El Raunch Oh! Grande, How Big is Your Woofer, Love Handle Lounge and Love Organs), Exotic Embers doesn't quite get the A+ rating that Capitol Records Ultra Lounge series does, and it may even fall short of DCC's Music For a Bachelor's Den set or Rhino's Cocktail Mix series, but it is a great listen.

The selections are a little eclectic, ranging from Percy Faith to Tito Puente. There are a couple of good tracks by exotica-master Esquivel, which offer nothing new to fans, but serve as a good intro to his work. The Stanyan Strings up the quirkiness of the disc, but perhaps the oddest (and coolest) track is a cover of The Beatles 'Yesterday' by La Lupe and Tito Puente. Being a Beatles fan, I found this track worth the price of the disc.

Overall, this is a good buy for someone looking to add to their lounge music collection. It's a light, relaxing foray into 1960's music that would work great for a cocktail party or a quiet evening at home.
