"I'll admit, I heard "Starship" and assumed this would be a disaster on the scale of the Challenger Explosion. But now I feel like Arsenio Hall at a cheese party saying, "Man, how come you didn't tell me how good this was?"

The music alternates between a gentle folk style, rock, some rhythmic intricacies, and the Slick/Kantner harmonies that really takes everything over the top.

The lyrics are those of an empowered Freak movement, cries of 'free dope!' and paranoia of 'Uncle Sam' abound. Is it the 'Children of Men' of concept albums? The story of a child born, a movement to crush the government and hijack the starship. Far out, man.

If you haven't heard it, please do, soon. You won't even remember "We Built This City" afterward, I swear.

"Sometimes my heart aches for the 60's and 70's -- I was 19 when this album came out. It's hard for anyone now to understand how things felt then. There's was hope, a sense of change, revolution, joyous discovery and exploration. A feeling that "we" could make a difference. We did, but we were so naive. ;)



This is one of my favorite albums ever. Every time I hear it, I get fired up all over again. The other reviewers here have covered it well. For me, "Have you seen the stars tonight?" really captures it all. The hope, the love, the adventure, the belief. I really, really want to take that spaceship journey. (I grew up reading all the science fiction I could find...I think we all wanted to "live it" not just read it.) This album takes me there.



"Let's Go Together" is another great song and Grace sounds wonderful on it. "Hijack" "Child is Coming" "Starship" - man, they're all great songs. I love "Baby Tree" and sing it to this day. This was the sound-track to so many good times. It still gives me hope. (And I agree with the other reviewer, for the real experience, listen to the core, original tracks alone as an artistic whole, enjoy the added content later.)



This is truly a classic and a great trip. Take it.
