CD ReviewsSomewhere in the top 5 of bley trios of 90's and 2000's Robert Wade Cottingham | Dallas, TX | 07/04/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "So you know my bias, I think I own and have listened to all of Paul Bley's recordings except for maybe 3 or 4 of them. That's like 100+ CD's or LP's. And I would put "Memoirs" (Bley, Haden, Motian) near or at the very top of the list of trio recordings. Anyway this one, Zen Palace, recorded 1999, is somewhere in the top 5. Bley is hot, very two handed, and the group feeling has a kind of whimsy or something that I like a lot. All the pieces are free, no cover tunes. The 2nd track, 'Almost Persuaded' is a ridiculously beautiful ballad."
