With My Eyes Wide Open I'm Dreaming...
Matthew G. Sherwin | last seen screaming at Amazon customer service | 09/26/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"All Hits has nothing but the best from one of my favorite songbirds, Patti Page! Patti sings with all her heart and soul; and when you hear these numbers you'll know it. Her excellent diction and her sophisticated phrasing is rather unique; so few others have performed on her level. The quality of the sound on these CDs is excellent and the artwork is beautiful.

There's so much here to enjoy I scarcely know where to begin. It's all THAT good; and there's not a single dud in the bunch. That's Patti Page for you! The first CD opens with Patti singing wonderfully on "Confess;" she handles this like the pro she was and still remains. "I Don't Care If the Sun Don't Shine" gets a very energetic treatment from Patti who delivers this to perfection--and beyond! "Tennessee Waltz" was a big, big hit for Patti; and just one listen will let you know why! This country flavored torch song enchants me whenever I hear it; it's superb. "Mockin' Bird Hill" is another charmer; Patti sings this faultlessly and she never lets go of a single superfluous note. "Mister and Mississippi" is very well done; Patti handles those key and tempo changes seemingly effortlessly--although of course we know it really wasn't all that easy. Patti's talent carries her through. Listen also for "I Went to Your Wedding;" this shines in Patti's capable hands. "Once in Awhile" is a timeless classic and that music fits perfectly with Patti's singing. I love it!

"You Belong to Me" and "Why Don't You Believe Me" are marvelous; and I also really like "Doggie in the Window" which makes me smile every time I hear it. "Changing Partners" has Patti squarely front and center--which is right where she belongs! The musicians never even try to steal the spotlight from Patti; and that's great. "I Cried" features Patti delivering yet another gem; her voice is as clear as a bell--terrific! "Let Me Go Lover" is another jewel in this collection; you will like this, too. "Croce di Oro [Cross of Gold]" stuns me with its beauty; Patti sings this most passionately and I'm very impressed." "Allegheny Moon" couldn't have been done any better; and listen for "Mama from the Train (A Kiss, A Kiss)" which Patti does with true sensitivity.

"Poor Man's Roses (Or a Rich Man's Gold)" almost has an early rock and roll flavor to it that's actually quite interesting to hear; and there's a great tune when Patti Page sings "Wall" and "Old Cape Cod." "I'll Remember Today" uses the accordion very well as Patti sings flawlessly; and "Belonging To Someone" is a highlight of this three CD set, too. "Another Time, Another Place" is stunning; and "Left Right out of Your Heart" boasts a very spirited arrangement. "Fibbin'" has a great arrangement and the third CD ends very strong with Patti Page performing "Trust In Me." This song certainly leaves me wanting more!

Patti Page is one of the best female vocalists we've ever seen; I have quite a few of her CDs and even some of her record albums. I highly recommend this for fans of Patti Page; and people who enjoy classic pop vocals with an occasional country twist thrown in for good effect would do well to add this to their collections."

"There are many packages with Patti Page hits but when you get 42 original Top 40 hits (most of them Top 10s) in a package at this price you're getting a great deal.

And this package actually includes TRUST IN ME which until now has only been available on a VA compilation."
