Great performances, superb value

"These budget-price compilations can be hit-and-miss, depending on what the record company chose for performances. Well, for this one someone chose right. Böhm's Berlin performances of Schubert's last two symphonies are outstanding: the orchestral playing of the Berlin Philharmonic is of course superb, and Böhm's way with the music is totally natural, unforced, and without idiosyncrasies, yet there is no lack of tension, and the result is very eloquent; these are among the greatest of Schubert symphony recordings. Gilels' recording of the "Trout" Quintet with the Amadeus Quartet has similarly achived classic status. The sound quality is superb throughout. Highly recommended."
