Synopsis

Album Description
Alexei Gorokhov was born in Moscow in 1927. His main violin teachers were L. Tseitlin and A. Yampolsky at the Moscow Conservatory, where he also received a degree in musicology. He won prizes at several international violin competitions and toured in the Soviet Union, Denmark, Sweden, and Romania. In 1957 he became a professor of violin at the Kiev Conservatory. These highly enjoyable performances were recorded 1973-78. The re-orchestrations and cadenzas for these works are by the artist, Alexei Gorokhov. Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840) revolutionized violin playing. He added one astounding new technique after another, until his performances were so amazing that many believed the rumor that he had signed over his soul to the Devil. The artist, capitalizing on his cadaverous frame and sunken cheeks, did nothing to discourage the idea. In the last ten years of his active career he became a sensation -- a genuine superstar.
