Synopsis

Album Description
Ozric Tentacles are legends of the UK underground. Inspired by a myriad of music and musicians from Kraut-rockers Kraan to guitar maestro Steve Vai, from ethnic Arabic to electronic techno, from Hendrix to Hillage. Formed in the early eighties, the Ozrics began life as a free-form psychedelic vehicle for jamming, attracting a dedicated fan-base at grassroots level by playing at all the free festivals to fans of space-rock, dub, psychedelia, and later on when the festivals had developed into raves, to fans of house and techno. Having then developed their own cottage industry - studio, label, tour bus, dedicated following - the Ozrics eventually achieved top ten-album status in the UK with their 1993 album ?Jurassic Shift?. It was, and still is, an astonishing accomplishment for a band with no celebrity status, and no major record label backing. In their 20 years, the band has flourished through a number of line-up changes, spawned several side projects (Nodens Ictus, Ullulators) and new entities (Eat Static) put out 22 albums, scored a top ten hit and sold close to one million records. CD Reviews

A Tasty Teaser!

"If you are new to OT then this double album is a great overview of some of their more popular tunes. I would get this to see if you like them. There are a number of great tracks here, though it hardly covers all of their greatest music. But the biggies are here so it is certainly a good starting point.

If you are a fan, then you don't need this album, unless you are a completist. You probably already have as many albums as you could get your hands on (Amazon makes this pretty easy) and you know that the best way to listen to OT's music in in album form. This greatest hits package is good, but it is so much better to have the songs flow together the way they were originally intended.

To summarize, if you are into prog rock, space rock, or jamin a la Phish, Quarkspace and the Greatful Dead, Ozric Tentacles is a band you need to hear. If you haven't, get this album as a taster and I know you'll be hungry for more. Erpland, Waterfall Cities, Jurassic Shift, Strangeitude and Pungent Effulgent should be your next OT purchases."
A good, wide-ranging introduction

"I don't own this, but I know all the tunes on here and if you are curious about this band and want to know more, many of their best tunes are on this two-disc set. Unlike a lot of compilations, this one presents a relatively-risk-free way to introduce yourself to what I think is the best prog-rock band EVER."
