CD Reviews

Short, Simple, and Enjoyable

"Overflow's "A Better Place" isn't the most original music you will ever hear. This release probably isn't going to blow you away, but its still pretty decent. The music and lyrics focus on God, but both are simple and to the point, and most of the songs are pretty short. Their style is your standard rock sound, for the most part above average.

Who says everything has to be ground breaking and complex to be enjoyable? There are still kool guitar riffs, pretty piano parts, and strings here and there which are nice. I personally would have liked to of heard a little more of that stuff, especially the piano. Injecting more of the piano player would have given them a more original sound. The sound of a singer's voice is very important to me, and Overflow's vocalist is enjoyable.

The highlights of the cd are Come Home, Cry On My Shoulder, Forever, and Just for Me. For those songs the cd is worth buying. I wouldn't pay 17 bucks for this like alot of Christian distributors charge, but then again I wouldn't pay that much for any cd. I'm interested to see what Overflow do with their talents in the future. A good debut release."
Overflow has high potential in the CMA!

"I have been an Overflow fan for 4 years now. I met the guys in a little teen hangout...and let me tell you all...they are FAR FROM FAKE. I have no idea what these people who are giving bad reviews are talking about because they do not even know the guys! These guys are willing to help kids/teens/adults in anyway they can so they may become closer to Christ. Their music is very original, and their lyrics have touched the lives of others.

As one fan writes..."wow i thought that was a great concert all of them! that is really cool how yall did a christian concert at a water park going to chururces and stuff is great but going to a public water park where so so many people dont know a thing about God! and i just thought that was really cool whoever thought of that is very neat! but yall did a wonderful job! and thank you so much for comming to Arkansas!"-Caitlin from Arkansas.

If that doesnt sum up their love for God and their purpose, I dont know what does. If you want to listen to recycled lyrics and cliched music that has NO message, go listen to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Marilyn Manson. If you want to listen to something truly orininal and wonderful in lyrics and music and will Bless your life, ya got to get "Overflow-A Better Place"!!! How about open your eyes(all of you who gave bad reviews) and see the blessings that God gives to those who serve!

This album is full of hope.

"For the first 10 measures of this album, you might think it a rip-off of executive producer Mac Powell's Third Day. But then.....there's the rest of the album. If you think that Third Day is an ok band but tend to favor more good 'ole rock and roll, then this album is for you.

Overflow's sound guy is a good friend of mine and I have hung out with these guys on many occasions throughout the recording process. I can tell you that this album is definitely their own, written by the five guys on the cd.....and not thier producers.

With rockin' tracks such Better Place, What's Missing, and Gotta Believe It (which is reminiscent of old school Third Eye Blind); this cd is a good addition to any rock library.

The lyrics aren't as clever as Radiohead or Project 86, but then again, the cover says Overflow and not Radiohead. Ballads such as Come Home, Cry on My Shoulder, and Forever are good sunday morning classics.

Listen, the buzz out of Essential Records is that they think that Overflow has alot of success in front of them. And it can't hurt that Christian music's biggest figure Mac Powell is quoted saying that he thinks that Overflow is on their way to even more success than his own band Third Day. The album is good."
