CD Reviews

As awesome as the poem itself
Jose J Calzada | Mexico, DF Mexico | 06/20/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Being a lifelong fan of Lewis Carroll, I was thrilled when -by mere chance- I stumbled upon this unusual and extraordinary recording (the only copy in the rack, by the way). Of course I decided I must have it, and have never regretted this sudden impulse. A one of a kind recording, this rare gem is an awesome mixture of excellent voices and gifted musicians. As extraordinary and extravagant as the poem itself, must be heard to be believed. Too bad it seems to have softly and suddenly vanished away into the "out of stock" seas..."
A Rare Musical Gem
Scott Cleveland | Long Beach, Ca USA | 10/10/2004

"I was lucky enough to encounter the Snark via a friend, who played a few tracks for me. I was hooked. Mike Batt uses several music styles to weave Lewis Carroll's wonderful poem into wonderful listiening experience. It seems a crime that this cd is not better known (given the calibre of perfomers on it)."
A hidden masterpiece

"I well remember one Christmas watching Mike Batt's TV production of the Hunting of the Snark from the Albert Hall, London. I thought the music, the lyrics, the recording artists and the way it was staged were absolutely brilliant! Fortunately I able to get an audiocassette of the soundtrack and it became a real family favourite down over the years...I was really surprised when the later London stage production did so badly. How I wish there was a CD, or better still, a DVD of this original production. I reckon parents and kids alike would just love it. It's a hidden masterpiece...is there no master copy somewhere that can be formatted to CD or DVD?"
