"Carroll Gibbons led the Savoy Orpheans, the resident band at the Savoy Hotel; his Boyfriends was a small group drawn from the full band, and Hildegarde was a visiting American vocalist who recorded several sessions with them during the thirties. Incidentally, the title of this CD should read "Ooh! That Kiss", which conveys a sensuous reaction more in keeping with the songwriters' intention.



Hildegarde takes vocal honours on seven tracks, including the song "Darling, Je Vous Aime Beaucoup" which was a best-seller. Carroll's fellow-American, pianist and composer Johnny Green, is present on two tracks, and Matty Malneck's violin embellishes Carroll's signature tune of "On The Air".



This is a stylish compilation of thirties recordings, many of which tunes have since become standards. You should snap it up if and when it becomes available.
