Synopsis

Album Description
2009 collection. It is hard to think of a modern musician who can boast a broader range of skills and achievements than Nitin Sawhney. He is not only a classically-trained pianist and flamenco guitarist but also a cutting-edge club DJ and producer, which may explain why he is the only artist ever to have been invited to play both the BBC Electric Proms and the "real" Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. He has composed numerous orchestral symphonies and soundtracks for clients ranging from the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Ballet of China to Sony Playstation 3. He has been showered with arts awards and is the recipient of several honorary degrees. He is also a cultural and current affairs commentator on television and in the print media, a patron of the arts and a respected community leader. Cooking Vinyl.

Refreshing Return to Music
Nadiyah Ford | 01/16/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"First - If you're looking for run of the mill "techno" music or repetitive uninspiring electronic music, you will surely be disappointed with this album. Keep it moving.

Second - the stars. I view them as the degree to which you'll regret your purchase (1 = complete regret, 5 = no regret or excited surprise) NOT based on musical genius (that being said, we are talking about Nitin Sawhney so for those that are familiar your expectations should be set accordingly).

And now for the review. I give it four stars because while most of the album is reverbs of previously released tracks, some of the "remixes" are nothing more than extensions. That being said there were a couple of surprises. First, the eerily sultry vocals of Imogen Heap on Bring It Home and the transient sound of October Daze. While some folks rant and rave over the Paul McCartney track "My Soul" and speak of his apparent pain and the "honesty" of the track, I find it annoying and a bit contrived - but then, I'm not a Paul McCartney fan and consider him entirely overrated - so take that with a grain of salt. Don't expect much from Daybreak, other than the genius of the original track. My personal favorite is Ek Jaan (the Cotti Remix) - typically hard hating base lines that dominate a song, especially "electronic" baselines, annoy me. This one I find creative and interesting.

All in all, worth the money...it might not change your life but you certainly won't regret it. Just know what you're getting yourself into."
