Synopsis

Here's where the trippier directions of the electronic movement run smack into its Sturm-und-Drang industrial heritage. Trent Reznor's peak achievement through 1997 is reshaped five times over with profoundly weighty beats, dub textures, and trance soundscapes. The Orb's mix, which makes Reznor sound like he's drowning in his bathtub, is a bit silly, but otherwise this is fascinating stuff. --Jeff Bateman

CD Reviews

Least Favorite of all NIN "remixes"
J. Blocker | 06/04/2009
(1 out of 5 stars)

"I'm a big fan of NIN, I collect all thier CD's, DVD's and VHS tapes and I LOVE 99.9% of everything I've heard and seen, including the remix CD's. This CD falls into the .1% of "Hate It" category. I would prefer to get my teeth drilled to having listen to the CD again. I'll keep it in my collection because I am a Collector."
Great CD for Remix Lovers
Rosebud Society | Germany | 09/24/2008
(3 out of 5 stars)

"- If it's the basic/radio version of Perfect Drug you're into, buy the Lost Highway soundtrack. Not only is the "original" song on there, but also tons of other great material.

- I agree with others who say this does still sound like NIN - remixes are meant to sound different - listen to the previews to judge whether it's too abstract for your taste.

- The three-star rating does not reflect different interpretations of the song - these are abundant and their multitude justified by the varying musical directions applied. It does reflect the fact that this just isn't my favorite NIN song - in any version. I much prefer singles like March of the Pigs, which offer (less subtle) remixes along with the original, or for your money's worth of remixes I strongly suggest the album-like Further Down the Spiral.

In summary: buy this single only if you're really into Perfect Drug AND interpretive remixes.
