Synopsis

Album Description
Nightmare Of You is a bold four-piece from Long Island, NY featuring former Movielife guitarist Brandon Reilly and Rival Schools'' drummer Sammy Seigler. The band has eschewed emo focusing on an updated sound influenced by The Cure and The Smiths. Their fresh, audacious melodies and tongue-in-cheek lyrics are so infectious that you''ll find yourself involuntarily singing them.

CD Reviews

Great!

"Okay, so this isn't going to be a substantial review. But, I have to say I thought this album was really good.

The most obvious strength of this band are the vocals. Hummable melodies with lyrics of deep vocabulary (eg - "in such arduous pallor"), all delivered by one of the most listenable voices I've heard in awhile. I saw a quote saying NOY sounds like The Killers mixed with Green Day, and that is a pretty good comparison vocally. As for the band, they offer a welcome change in that they don't use a whole lot of distortion on their guitars. Rather, you have the lush sounds of clean electric guitars; something which I personally love. Their bass player has a very good tone as well, keeping it tight but throwing in a few showy fills here and there. Finally, the drummer is a solid player. Like his bass counterpart, he focuses mainly on keeping a backbeat, but has a few subtle drum tricks in his tool bag.

I think NOY has a really bright future. Although a collection of good songs; there aren't any obvious smash singles on this CD. Still, these guys have all the ingredients to be huge. If they can write a good radio song on their next album, I think they might take off. But... I'm biased. I love pop-rock like this."

"Wow. I was told by Amazon that I would like this CD since I love Panic! At The Disco and Jack's Mannequin's CDs. This CD was probably the best new band I have found on here. I had to pay a lot for it, but it was very well worth it. Frontman Brandon Reilly has a very unique shriek that he can pull off every now and then that works very well. He does a great job and maes the NOY sound even better. Very poppy sounding album. Track list:

1. The Days Go By Oh So Slow - (5/5) - Great start. Got me hooked. Good lyrics. Sets the pace for the rest of the album. Has a weaker Reilly shriek.

2. Dear Scene, I Wish I Was Deaf - (5/5) - A great follow up to the first track. I like it even more after seeing them live. Good lyrics. Has a Reilly shriek.

3. Thumbelina - (5/5) - Interesting metaphor the whole time. Definitely a more sexual song. It's good though. He does a great job keeping the metaphor going the whole song. Has a Reilly shriek.

4. My Name Is Trouble - (5/5) - My favorite song on the album. Great dance song. A little sexual, but a positive message in the end.

5. Why Am I Always Right? - (5/5) - Good lyrics again. More of a fun song. Good beat. Very catchy. Follows trend of excellence set by the rest of the album.

6. I Want To Be Buried In Your Backyard - (5/5) - Maybe most familiar with most people. Great song for them to know though. It's a little emo, yes, but it's an amazing song. Another pretty good dance song. Sweet song, in an emo sense.

7. Ode To Seritonin - (5/5) - Short and sweet. I love listening to this song. Fun song. Very, very poppy.

8. Marry Me - (5/5) - Slower song. Uses some big words. Fun song.

9. In The Bathroom Is Where I Want You - (5/5) - Obviously, a sexual song. Fun to listen to though. I really enjoy it. Has some great lines in it as well.

10. The Studded Cinctures - (5/5) - Fun song. Entertaining. Contains the best Reilly shriek on the album.

11. Heaven Runs On Oil - (4/5) - Drops off a little from the rest of the album. Still a cool song. Works well in ending the CD. The politics in this song are very skewed, but so are most bands' politics, so whatever.

Overall, this album is one of my all-time favorites. It's very poppy and fun. Great lyrics and great beats. I definitely recommend it. If you ever get to see them live, do it. I saw them touring with She Wants Revenge, and they were amazing. They had fun up on stage, and by the end, Reilly held a shriek for quite a while. It was an amazing show. They really got into it. I met them afterwards and got the guitarist's signature. Nice guys too."
Great record.

"I discovered this record while browsing music on iTunes, bought the physical disc, and was not disappointed. With the exception of the country-tinged song ("Marry Me"), the songs on this record are all GREAT power pop, replete with hooks and 80s-style melancholia. The overall sound is a mixture of the Decemberists and the Smiths, and the singer seems to channel Morrissey in certain vocal stylings/periodic yelps. The song "I Want To Be Buried In Your Backyard," is a modern-day "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out."

This album brings back what it was like to be an angst-ridden, black-clad adolescent in the 80s, when everything was about pure, dramatic, John Hughes-ian romantiscm."
