CD Reviews

Catchy tunes for adult and child alike!

"First off, I'm in my early 30's... the original songs came out before my time; however, I did recognize almost all of the songs on this CD by the beat alone (i've been racking my brain trying to figure out the original titles!)

My almost 3-year-old daughter LOVES this CD.. to the point that I've memorized all the words of the songs. It's a relatively short CD so in one car ride we can go through half the songs each time... I love that I can still remember the original and children's versions and sing both versions back and forth!

Highly recommended for adults and children alike!"

"Waking Up Is Hard To Do features the wonderful Neil Sedaka taking the melodies of several of his well known songs and reworking them to charm young children--not to mention us grown-ups as well! This is Neil Sedaka is his natural element: making great music for a yet another whole new generation with catchy lyrics to fit melodies many of us will almost instantly recognize. However, if you don't recognize a melody or two on this CD, there's no problem or reason for embarrassment. This material is so wonderfully appealing that you'll not only enjoy it with your children--you'll sing along with them as well very soon!

There's so much here to love; there's not a dud in the bunch and that's pretty special. From the opening track, which uses a melody from a song Neil always sang entitled "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do," to the last number "Baby's First Christmas Lullaby" which absolutely sparkles, the entire package charms me with its beauty. Neil Sedaka proves he's still not afraid of being creative; he has produced a very sweet album that impresses me very much.

Highlights include:

"Where The Toys Are" (a song written by Neil Sedaka with Howard Greenfield; this is performed to the tune of "Where The Boys Are")

"Lunch Will Keep Us Together" (written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield--and best known for Captain & Tennille's cover of it called "Love Will Keep Us Together");

"Happy Birthday Number Three" (set to the tune of "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen," a song I always loved by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield;

"Laughter in the Rain" which is set to the melody of the song of the same name by Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody

and "Little Devil" (set to the tune of "Little Devil" by Neil Sedaka)

In addition, "Baby's First Christmas Lullaby" ends the album with an adorable lullaby that your children won't forget anytime soon. The musical arrangement is very pretty.

Overall, this children's album by Neil Sedaka proves he still has everything it takes--and more--to create great new music and entertain along with the best of them. I highly recommend this album for your young children to enjoy; and you'll love every minute of it, too!
