"I stumbled on this beautiful recording of Rhapsody Pathetique several years ago on an airline flight to the west coast. I was captivated by the spiritual, haunting interplay between the violin and orchestra. I bought the CD and liked the other selections equally well. If you enjoy the work of Alan Havhaness and John Taverner, who are much better known than Richard Nanes, than I urge you to try this gem of a recording . I play it often when in a pensive mood."

"I first heard part of "Rhapsody Pathétique for Violin & Orchestra" late one night on a local NPR station. I had never heard anything quite like it. It was haunting, lyrical, moving, sad, triumphant and achingly beautiful -- words fail to describe the emotions this work evokes. The other works here are quite enjoyable as well. The "Concerto Grosso for Brass Trio & Chamber Orchestra" consists of a theme and 25 remarkable variations. The "Symphony for Strings" is a short work that works beautifully as well. This is a highly recommended disc. Orchestras would do well to add these remarkable works to their repertoire. And if you enjoy works for solo piano, try his very melodic "Nocturnes of the Celestial Sea"."
