Nana Caymmi - Os maiores sucessos de novela
Adelaide Davis | Lakewood, Colorado United States | 06/28/2001

"The misty but strong voice of Nana is a treat. She is a great interpreter and sings with the heart. The daughter of Caymmi (and sister of Dori and Danilo Caymmi) is herself, with the art of the family in her veins. This specific CD is the best present the singer could give to her fans. The selection is beautiful and extremely sensitive. Each one has its own value. The unusual sounds and great poetry here represented create a wonderful mood and makes you want to listen more and more of the beautiful Brazilian music. "Suave veneno" (from "Suave veneno") and "Resposta ao tempo" (from "Hilda Furacão"), great songs by Cristóvão Bastos and Aldir Blanc, are special; the composers define the meaning for poetry in music and fill our heart with beauty; Nana delivers them with her beautiful voice and such emotion that one doesn't want to stop listening again and again. Then we have the old "Não se esqueça de mim" (from "Pecado capital") by Roberto Carlos and Erasmo Carlos, that she sings in duet with Erasmo Carlos - it's a treat! The same beauty is shown with "Canção da manhã feliz" (from "Brilhante") by Haroldo Barbosa and Luiz Reis. "Vem morena" (from "Tieta") shows the art of Danilo Caymmi and Paulo Cesar Pinheiro. The same happens with "Flor da Bahia" of Dori Caymmi and Paulo Cesar Pinheiro. The two Caymmi brothers teamed with Paulo Cesar Pinheiro to give us these two great songs and Nana is the best interpreter they could have. Ronaldo Bastos and André Sperling composed "Dois corações" (from "Renascer") and with this song Nana stirs our emotion doing the same with the beautiful "Cais" (from "Sinal de alerta") by Ronaldo Bastos and Milton Nascimento. "Deixa ficar" (from "Tereza Batista Cansada de Guerra") with its beautiful melody and lyrics by Roger Henri and Vera Cordovil is smooth and light, speaking of hope for happiness. The wonderful Toninho Horta made "Beijo partido"( from "Pecado capital") and shows why he is such a special composer - beautiful! The CD wouldn't be complete if Ivan Lins and Vitor Martins were not there and they are with "Doce presença" (from "Champagne") and "Mudança dos ventos" already famous for so many years and Nana sings these songs in her special way and makes us want more and more. "Fruta mulher" by Vevé Calazans (from "Roque Santeiro") and "Fascinação" - the old version (by Armando Lousada) for "Fascination" (F. D. Marchetti/M. de Feraudy) - (from "Fascinação") complete this CD that is something to die for. You can't miss this one. It's a good introduction to the very best of Brazilian music. It's a great way to show why Brazilian music is so famous and so loved. Have fun, enjoy it!"

"Nana Caymmi is a great stylist of contemporary Brazilian song. Good taste in repertoire and musicians all-star choice are other common features on Nana Caymmi's records. She's recorded many songs as soundtracks to locally famous Brazilian soap opera. This CD is a compilation of such songs. If it's to be your first Nana Caymmi, I suggest this one."
