CD Reviews

A few of his best instrumentals on this one

"I have at least a dozen of Phil's CD's, and I got the 4-CD set of "Music to Paint By" last year. All 4 CD's have many great moments. Two of my particular favorites are on Still Life - namely the sweet "Anniversary Waltz", and the brooding "Inspiration." The latter is remeniscient of Beatle ballads like "And I Love Her" - but takes that style to a new level. To me, it conveys the thoughts that we don't understand how inspiration works, but we know that it is amazing and beautiful, nonetheless. I recommend that you get the entire set, since there are tunes on all 4 CD's that will just blow you away - especially on "Electric Blue." Go to his site and check it out - there is a LOT of info there. He is probably my overall favorite artist."
The 4CD set: a great 1 cd by Worlds Best

"Part of what makes PK great is his authentic humility and willingness to be a part of something bigger. Even more is his genuine feeling, intuition of musical sounds and ideas, and a preternatural ability to make the sounds translate thru the fingers to the strings. Unison records is apparently gone now, so get the whole set while you can. My thought at seeing the package was "wow, 4 hours of PK at the price of 1 premium CD." Well, among the 4 hours is the bona fide content of 1 premium CD--and 3 hours of "nice" or "pleasant" music. Which is ok, but not satisfying like his other instrumental projects. The great stuff is hidden like slices of filet mignon inside a school lunch sandwich. On the positive side, the relaxing music sections soothe my soul, and are indeed "music to paint by." And for those who would like to play PK's music themselves, there are numerous simple pieces, good for beginners. One request: supply artist credits and other tech details in any re-releases of this material."
