Synopsis

Album Description
This engaging collection presents an unusual coupling of Mozart?s Oboe Quartet, a work full of humour and charm, and an anonymous arrangement for oboe quintet of his String Quintet No. 2, K406, itself adapted from the earlier Wind Serenade, K388. The Divertimento, Op. 9 by the Finnish composer and clarinettist Crusell, is a fluent work with an attractively fresh melodic vein. The elegant Oboe Quartet by J.C. Bach, the ?London? Bach, is one of a set of concertante quartets by Bach and his friend C.F. Abel, published in several different versions as was the custom at the time.

CD Reviews

Wonderful Varied Collection

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This has some familiar and not so familiar works for oboe and strings, here brilliantly played by oboist Artved and string friends. Mozart's Oboe Quartet in F major for his friend Ramm is outstanding, especially the interplay of melody between oboe and violin.

Then there is Mozart's Oboe Quintet in C minor, originally for oboes, clarinet, bassoon, and horns, now transposed for strings here and pulled off magnificently.

Clarinetist Crusell's Divertimento for Oboe and Strings is highlight of this CD, with the grand rapid finale.

Finally, JC Bach's Oboe Quintet offering is truly revelling with its minuet feel with two trios."
