Synopsis

Album Description
Thomas Hengelbrock cordially invites you to take a tour of the Music Library of J.S. Bach. Even though Bach spent most of his life within a small geographic area, his passionate desire to learn every aspect of the music of his time can be seen from the scores that became a part of his musical library. Proof of this passion can be heard on the present disc, presenting recordings of Bach?s own manuscript editions of the music. Even the cover art displays the thoroughness with which Maestro Hengelbrock oversaw the presentation of this disc, featuring a facsimile page of the Handel cantata "Armida abbandonata" in the manuscript lovingly copied by Bach himself (with the help of his son, Carl Philipp Emanuel). The same attention to detail is everywhere evident on this gorgeous program, featuring the artistry of Sibylla Rubens, the Bathasar-Neumann-Ensemble and Thomas Hengelbrock.
