Phenomenal adagio
Sanja Kostic | mirro | 11/05/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Mozart's piano concerto no.17 is highly esteemed for phenomenal and unique adagio. Here, Christine Schornsheim and New Bach Collegium Musicum are at their highest altitude.

Allegros, a typical Mozart's concept with careful orchestral exposition, piano intro, intelligent and passionate development, cadenza and vary careful finale, make the specific plot to what comes after: Andante. It opens with short very quiet phrase in string section and immediately establishes the ambience of the movement. Then, it comes the first subject: a beautiful melancholy, a beautiful melody in a perfect orchestration. Then, piano repeats the same opening phrase, that finishes in the famous rest, complete silence. That creates highly intensive tension before the second subjerct is introduced, a very intimate tragedy, just underlined dominant minor accord in a tutti accompanied by piano walking across the melody line. That is where I hysterically burst into tears..."Damn" Mozart!

The concerto no. 19. is brilliance of orchestral and piano dialogue, and cadenza is well known, and it is a special page to all serious artists. Christine is on the top notch of the best performance ever. This CD is for large audience to enjoy, but also is for serious musicians to have as handy material when analyze such lovely music. I, just a veterinarian, am able to enjoy this precious music only by listening and make my life less trivial.
