Concerto No.23 in A Major, K.488 in the hands of Murray Perahia is splendid indeed. The English Chamber Orchestra is very good, and the digital recording is in the demonstration class. This concerto is a masterpiece of delicate beauty combined with inner vitality, and is probably my second favorite Mozart Piano Concerto (No.22 is number 1 for me). Mozart's woodwind writing, especially the clarinets in No.23, is incredible. (Mozart only used clarinets in 3 of the 27 concerti, nos. 22, 23 and 24.) Both concertos on this CD were written with very nice woodwind parts, and Concerto No.19 in F Major, K.459 is no exception. If you purchase no other Mozart Piano Concertos on CD, you MUST get this one. Very highly recommended by a BIG Mozart enthusiast!"
