CD Reviews

THE MAGIC OF MOZART
William A. Carnahan | Washington, DC United States | 02/17/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As a deep catalogue collector of baroque and early classical music and as an acolyte of the angelic Emma Kirkby: I bought the original release of these Mozart motets on the L'OISEAU-LYRE label in 1984. I play them religiouly at Easter time; and am convinced that they are also being played in heaven."
A real affirmation of human possibility

"I bought a cassette of this in 1984 --- on the occasion of my first son's birth --- and eventually wore it out in my Walkman. A lump of mud, a block, could not help but be moved by this recording and the great, joyous art behind it. Now I'm going to buy it for the 3d time and put it in my nifty new Christmas iPod and play it 'til the day I die. Words can't describe how happy I am to find it. On a purely personal level, to me it is the very soundtrack of my beautiful sons' lives. Thank you, Ms. Kirkby. Thank you, Mr. Hogwood."
