"This CD is a welcome tribute to Morton Gould's skill as an arranger of popular standards. It is captured in spacious and generally very good 1957 stereo sound, recorded in Manhattan Center. Gould has great taste, and none of these arrangements overstays their welcome. The playing is extremely beautiful. I hope BMG will reissue all of the Morton Gould and His Orchestra recordings from this period, including his worderful Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade. Classical listeners will be struck by the subtle coloration of the orchestral writing here, with wonderful brass and woodwind solos. Except for a piece by Gould and a work that won a Victor Talking Machine contest in 1928, all of these songs are familiar and receive loving treatment. Whether your taste tends toward the Boston Pops or toward Schubert, you should find something to love in this album."
