Morcheeba's Singles

"With four albums under their belt, Morcheeba (The Godfrey Brothers & Skye Edwards), or their company, have decided to release a compilation that spans their work. Starting out as a trip-hop band that has quickly evolved into a eclectic pop trio, this collection has everything that the casual fan would desire.Chronology isn't the order of the day with this disc, but it's easy to figure out which song is from which album once you've read the wry "history" of the band. Also of note are comments for each song written by Paul Godfrey, the guy who provides the beats.The songs range from languid grooves (Never An Easy Way, The Sea) to alt-countrified pop (Part Of The Process), to unashamed Motown knock-offs (Rome Wasn't Built In A Day), to the heavily percussive (Let Me See). Skye Edwards' voice is the star of the show. Sweet, without being saccharine, her singing sounds perfect atop the instrumentation, particularly their earlier sound (Moog Island, Trigger Hippie).There are two new songs on the disc (What's Your Name ft. Big Daddy Kane, Can't Stand It), the latter being the more memorable of the two. It flies like the pretty pop tune it is.For the casual fan, this is the best bet. For the ardent fan, it's not essential. Also included is a DVD sampler of their November 2002 concert from Brighton, England. A nice inclusion, if not particularly spetacular."
Addictive beyond belief

"I have never heard of Morcheeba before prior to a few weeks ago. One day I carpooled with my co-worker and he happened to have The Big Calm CD in the dash, and I really liked it. I decided to buy this album to check out Morcheeba, and boy, do I like them! I carry this CD with me from my office to my car to my home back to my car and to the office. The songs are all that WELL made, you will listen to nothing else but this for weeks. Do yourself a favor though, and buy the CD edition only, because (in my humble opinion) it's not worth paying $6 more to get the CD/DVD limited edition. You are only getting these songs performed live @ Brixton Academy (Nov 02) on the DVD:::The Sea
::Part of the Process
::Trigger HippieNot that I'm complaining. This is *definitely* the best $20 I have spent in a long long time. I cannot get enough of this CD!"
