Greatest Christmas Album Ever!!!

"Gosh, found this album about ten years ago and was praising it to the skies back then. Am buying some albums for family members this year.

This is simply the most powerful, most beautiful Christmas album I've ever heard and I've got a bunch of them. From the soft, subtle beauty of O Sanctissima to the rousing choruses of Hark the Herald Angels Sing and, my favorite on this album, Angels We Have Heard on High (especially the last part wherein after a short stutter-step comes back with a Hallelujah! etc.)

This album so impressed me that I sought out all of Russell Shaw's Christmas albums, but the arrangements by Robert Russell Bennet and the great ASO Chorus set this above all the others."

"There is an earlier 1963 recording of the same material. This newer recording is by far superior. The 1963 recording has been remastered for "improved" sound and in the transformation the quiet parts got loud and the loud parts got shrill and distorted."
