CD Reviews

I love you Monifah
J. Williams | Riverside, CA | 02/18/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is one of the best debuets of the past decade. Unfourtinally Universal had no clue how to promote it. Which is pretty amazing seeing how when this came out artists like Mary J were doing well. Monifah can sing, considerably better then the previous mentioned, yet you probably have never heard this album. A real shame. "I Miss You" the lead single is cool song, with a catchy beat and lyrics. But it doesn't do her any justice. There are some awesome selections to be found here vocally. "Jesus Is Love" (a Lionel Ritchie remake?) is a beautiful ballad. When you have an accapella song and the artist still sounds good, you know they're the real deal.
"Nobody's Body" is SLAMMING! the track is real uptempo, it will have your head nodding, and dancing. That is if your not rhythmically challenged like me. I love "You" her voice is so strong here, and the bass is heavy. I still love this album, all these years later. All I could have asked for (more) would have been maybe 1 more accapella track. It's a damn shame Heavy D wasn't able to get Monifah out there, she has infinite talent."
Excellent

"This album is an excellent showcase of what modern day R and B should be. It is an excellent expression of human thoughts and feelings, something that everyone can relate to."
Dope And Overlooked Album
Tourmaline | ATL | 05/04/2001

"If you like Faith and Mary, you will find it hard not to like this album. Not to say that Monifah is not original, because does her thing on this album, but comparisons can be made. This is a very solid album, which is why I cannot understand why it was overlooked. There is truly something that every R&B fan can enjoy on this album. My favorites are It's Alright, You Don't Have To Love Me, Lay With You, You've Got My Heart and the remix for I Miss You. Grab this album!!"
