Ramblers Live Raccolta
Angelo | New York | 01/27/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The Modena City Ramblers are not for everyone but they are for those who enjoy combat folk that touches on world music while tracing its roots to the Italian heartland. The Ramblers have managed to combine Irish, Italian and world music in a live album that is both lively and touching. The songs range from adaptations of traditional ballads to new arrangements that chronicle the various aspects of society. It contains some of their more familiar hits along with a few new pieces. What makes the album even more fun is that it is recorded in an Irish pub...near Modena, Italy. It is an album worth trying to experience to unique musical combinations."
Irishman says Italian Irish band are the real thing!

"Being from Ireland, with a background in the Gaelic-speaking region of Connemara, I was astounded at how this wonderful Italian band captured the spirit of our music while synthesising it with the rebel music of their own native Emilia-Romagna and a world sound influenced by Sicilia and North Africa. Like another reviewer, I bought this without knowing the band, but wanting a souvenir of Italy. I was particularly curious about the burgeoning Irish pub and music scene in Italy, which struck me as interesting during my visits there. These guys play the uptempo numbers with all the verve of the best ceili pub bands back home, and the ballads with all the feeling, skill and sad beauty of the best Irish acts. In fact, in all honesty, I find I listen to this CD more often over time than most of my Irish trad CDs and consider the Modena City Ramblers better at this type of music than even some of the more famous Irish acts. Now that I live in the US, I find this CD a wonderful taste of both Ireland and Italy, when I need a shot of nostalgia from either land. What more can I say , except that this has become one of my favourite CDs in general, and not simply in the world/folk/Celtic category. Forza, ragazzi! Agus go raibh mile maith agat! Viva la grande famiglia!"
