Synopsis

Product Description
If there is such a thing as a 'San Francisco sound,' Minipop doesn't care about it. Perhaps that's what has allowed the local quartet to create a brand of starry-eyed pop that feels ethereal, uprooted from time and space. Over the past year, the group has signed to Take Root Records, released their eponymous debut album, and watched the video for the single Like I Do viewed more than 700,000 times on YouTube. During that time, Minipop embarked upon two national tours, played with such high-profile bands as Stellastarr*, Film School, and Cursive, and made their second appearance at SXSW. The ensemble also scored press in auspicious magazines like Nylon, Spin, Under the Radar, and Alternative Press, and were featured on such Internet sites as Yahoo Music, Amazon, and Rhapsody.

CD Reviews

Masterfully Wonderful
Broadus Jay Moore | Jamestown, NC USA | 05/15/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What a fresh new sound! If this were the 60's, "minipop" would be on the Ed Sullivan show. The music is permeating...that is, it will penetrate any garbage that's in your life at the moment and provide refuge. Their music is fun, peace-rendering and refreshing. "New Hope" is a display of intoxicating artistry. Can't wait for their next one."
Lilting meditative goodness

"I have to say I was a big fan and I still listen to my Breeders and my Belly CDs. So Minipop is like falling off a really nice moss covered log cool in the middle of a forest glen full of fairies and hope. I really like it. I had the feeling that I was sitting by the river at sunset listening to people talk and laugh while the album played. I cannot suggest any individual songs because they all fit together. But I can say that Precious is part of the SXSW preview package which is where I found them. Sounds like Breeders, Belly, Cocteau Twins"
