"Mike Roe should be in line to receive an award as one of the most underrated guitarists out there, and "Safe As Milk" is certainly underrated, too. This is a great CD (I have the un-tampered-with version), full of a variety of styles, from the cool rocker "Sneakers" to the torch song-esque "You Leave Me Homeless," to the heart-breakingly gorgeous "Ache Beautiful."



Mike wears his influences on his sleeve here, paying homage to artists like Dylan on songs like "Go With God.." Brian Wilson on "Smile," and James Brown on "The Stellazine Prophecy." It's pastiche, not irony, though, and comes across like he's got complete freedom on this recording. It's quirky, for sure, but certainly makes for rewarding listening."
